7:30PM Show // 7:00PM Doors

Cimarrón performs joropo music from the Plains of the Orinoco River with a global and contemporary sound. Their powerful scenic force achieves a unique blend of its Andalusian, Indigenous American and African roots, with a soulful ethnic singing, amazing stomp dance and fierce instrumental virtuosity of strings and percussions.

Their music includes four-stringed cuatro, harp, maracas, and also peruvian-flamenco cajón, brazilian surdo, afro-colombian tambora, a stomp dance as a percussion component and tribal indigenous whistles never seen before out of Latin America.
The particular sound of Cimarron leads a new wave of colombian joropo music.

Cimarrón has been the first and only traditional Colombian music band on being nominated for the Grammy Awards for Best World Music Album. In 2007, Cimarrón collaborated on a live album with the official harpist of the Prince of Wales, Catrin Finch, with whom they also toured around United Kingdom. Cimarron won the 2012 Independent Music Awards for Best Latin Album and in 2014 they were nominated for Premios Lunas del Auditorio de México for Best Traditional Music Show.

Their Joropo has been acclaimed in the most important world music festivals like Smithsonian Folklife Festival, WOMAD Festival, LEAF Festival, ExpoSanghai, Rainforest World Music Festival, Paléo Festival, Glatt & Verkehrt, World Music Festival, Rio Loco Festival, Ile de France Festival, Mawazine Festival of Rabat, Rajasthan International Folk Festival, New Delhi International Arts Festival, Førde International Folk Music Festival, Sfinks Mixed, Flamenco Biennale Nederland, Lotus World Music & Arts Festival, National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Utah Arts Festival, San Francisco International Arts Festival, Globalquerque, Louisiane International Festival, Zomer van Antwerpen Festival, Abu Dhabi Culture & Heritage Festival, Mexico Historical Center Festival, among other major international events and concert halls such as the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Musashino Concert Hall in Tokyo, Hiroshima Bunka Center, Maison de Culture du Monde in Paris, Usina del Arte in Buenos Aires, Bimhuis in Amsterdam and other venues from Europe, United States, Asia, Africa, America and the Middle East.

With her voice and guitar, Diana Alvarez creates an atmosphere where you can hear a "pin drop." Alvarez's soulful, bilingual music exalts queer love and liberation, and is the armature of her multimedia performance, Quiero Volver: A Xicanx Ritual Opera. Described by the press as "a visually and acoustically stunning performance meant to honor women, non-binary and genderqueer people of color," Quiero Volver features Alvarez's original music, sonic text scores, a poem-script for ensemble performance, and documentary video portraits. In 2018, Quiero Volver was produced by grassroots organizers and Smith College at the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton, where the performance event raised over $10,000 to support immigrant justice initiatives through the Southern Poverty Law Center. Dr. Alvarez teaches music in Western Massachusetts.
